Explore Honors and Undergraduate Research

Honors and Undergraduate Research (HNUR) helps students grow as scholars, leaders and creators through a variety of academic and co-curricular opportunities. Honors programs offer flexible pathways that include enriched courses, research experiences, service-learning and study abroad, centered on scholarship, engagement, leadership and fellowship.

Students may also join Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges, which offers scholarships, leadership opportunities and service-based programming. Through undergraduate research, students participate in projects, conferences, training and publications while developing skills in conducting and presenting original research. Students can also share their work through the Journal of Research in Progress, an interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed campus journal that publishes student research and creative work.

Rouse Scholars

As a cohort, students complete a four-semester sequence of Honors seminars focused on civic and community engagement, leadership development and academic research.

Schoenbrodt Scholars

A flexible Honors experience for dual-enrolled high school students, high school graduates and current full- and part-time HCC students. The program gives students the opportunity to pursue academic and personal achievement on a timeline that fits their individual needs.

An international honor society for students at two-year colleges. Members gain access to scholarships, leadership opportunities and service experiences that support their academic and personal growth.

Journal of Research in Progress

An interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed campus journal open to student researchers and artists. JRIP provides experiential learning and recognition through the publication of research articles and collaborative creative works.

Scholars Symposium

An annual scholarly conference that celebrates the research and scholarship of HCC students. Students in the Honors and Undergraduate Research programs share their work and engage with fellow students and HCC faculty in a collaborative academic setting.
