Continuing Education Mandarin Chinese Language Courses

Discover the beauty and history of Chinese characters through writing and calligraphy. Students will learn the structure and stroke order of common Chinese characters while practicing traditional calligraphy techniques. By the end of the course, students will be able to write a variety of characters with greater confidence and artistic expression. Additional purchase of textbook and supplies required. (T) 

Looking for a more challenging language learning experience? Academic language courses provide structured instruction in listening, speaking, reading, and writing and are co-enrolled with college credit language classes. These courses move at a rigorous pace and require a significant commitment outside of class. Students should plan to spend at least four hours per week on assignments and independent study. Students receive a pass/fail grade but do not earn college credit. Required textbooks and online materials are purchased separately and may cost as much as $300. These courses are a good fit for serious language learners who have the time to dedicate to consistent study and practice.

Learn practical Mandarin Chinese for real-world situations. Practice greetings and polite expressions, ordering food, shopping, asking for directions, using transportation, and communicating in other everyday situations. Develop awareness of Mandarin tones while exploring cultural customs and etiquette and building confidence using the language. No prior knowledge of Mandarin Chinese is required. No textbook. Materials are included in the cost of the course.

Expand your vocabulary and confidence as you practice a wider range of everyday situations, ask follow-up questions, understand responses, make requests, and handle common communication challenges. Continue developing your pronunciation and understanding of Mandarin tones while exploring cultural customs and everyday life in Mandarin-speaking communities. This course builds on Mandarin Chinese for Travelers I. No textbook. Materials are included in the cost of the course.
