Recycling
HCC's Recycling Program: responsible resource conservation and an important step toward building a zero-waste community.
Howard Community College follows Howard County's curbside blue bin program. This is "single stream recycling" where all recyclables are sorted off site.
The college collects all recyclable materials in blue or marked recycling bins. Recycling bins are to be placed near trash bins to minimize contamination.
Cardboard: Fold boxes flat and place behind trash or recycling bins in the hallways.
Paper: Paper that is free from food or grease can be recycled. Magazines, catalogs, paper with staples, and colored paper are allowed. Shredded paper must be placed in paper sacks and stapled closed.
Cans, rigid plastic, and glass containers: These items should be empty but do not need to be washed.
Metal items (not cans): These items should be placed in the scrap metal dumpster behind Academic Commons.
Styrofoam and floppy plastic: These items are trash. Please put them in the trash bins, not the recycling bins.
Rechargeable batteries: Please send to Facilities by campus mail.
Electronics: Return used toner cartridges and electronics to User Network Services.
