Mental Health Technician Training at HCC
In just 50 hours, you can begin a rewarding career in behavioral health by training to become a Mental Health Technician (MHT). This program is designed for individuals who want to work directly with patients experiencing mental health challenges in hospitals, residential facilities, and community-based care settings.
Through specialized training, Mental Health Technicians gain knowledge and skills in:
- Understanding common mental health disorders and treatment approaches
- Observing and reporting changes in behavior or mood
- Patient documentation and communication with clinical staff
- Supporting daily living activities such as hygiene, meals, and personal care
- Assisting with therapeutic activities and group sessions
- Practicing crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques
- Applying ethical standards and protecting patient rights
- Maintaining infection control and safe care environments
- Collaborating effectively within interdisciplinary care teams
HCC’s Mental Health Technician program combines expert instruction, interactive learning, and hands-on skill-building to prepare you to support patients with empathy, structure, and professionalism. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to take the Certified Mental Health Technician (CMHT) exam, enhancing their professional credentials and employment opportunities in a variety of mental health care settings. 4.0 CEUs. Course Prerequisites
To take the Mental Health Technician course, you must:
- Be 18 years or older
- Have a Social Security Number or TIN
- Possess a high school diploma or GED
