An Intensive Review for Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) Preparing for GNA Certification in Maryland
Howard Community College offers this comprehensive course designed to prepare you for the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP®) Examination, administered by Credentia under contract with the Maryland Board of Nursing. Successful completion of this exam is required to be listed on the Maryland Geriatric Nursing Assistant Registry, an essential step for advancing your career as a Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) in Maryland.
NNAAP® Exam Overview
The exam includes a written (or oral) test with 70 multiple-choice questions (or 60 questions plus 10 reading comprehension questions for the oral option) and a Skills Evaluation requiring you to perform five randomly-selected nursing assistant skills within 30 minutes under the observation of a Nurse Evaluator.

Course Eligibility
Students must have an active Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential in good standing with the Maryland Board of Nursing to enroll and pursue the GNA certification.

This noncredit course is designed for Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), student nurses, or individuals with prior nursing education who are preparing to take the Maryland Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) skills and written examination. Participants will engage in a focused review of 23 essential nursing assistant skills-such as hand hygiene, ambulation with transfer belts, and measuring vital signs-through hands-on practice in a supervised lab setting. In addition, the course will cover test-taking strategies to help boost confidence and performance on the written exam. Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a certificate of achievement and be eligible to take the Maryland GNA examination. This course is ideal for those seeking to refresh their skills, meet certification requirements, or take the next step in their healthcare career.
