State-Authorized Training for Maryland Notary Publics
Notaries Public are state-appointed officials entrusted with serving the public by acting as an impartial witness during the notarization of important documents. As civil officers, notaries are legally bound to carry out notarial acts in strict accordance with state laws and regulations, ensuring integrity and compliance in every transaction.
As a notary, your responsibilities may include:
- Verifying the identity of signers
- Witnessing and authenticating signatures
- Administering oaths and affirmations
- Certifying copies of documents

Notaries Public are responsible for carrying out their duties with accuracy and integrity. Individuals seeking to become a Notary Public must complete a course of study and pass an examination before submitting their application to the Secretary of State's Office. This course outlines the scope of responsibilities and proper procedures involved in performing notarial acts. Please note: This course is intended for informational purposes only and does not constitute legal advice. Upon successful completion, you will receive both a Certificate of Completion and a Certificate of Passing. The course is self-paced and available online 24/7 for a duration of three days.
Notaries Public are responsible for carrying out their duties with accuracy and integrity. To renew a commission, you are required to take a course of study prior to applying for a renewal of the notary public commission. This self-paced course is offered for three days online. Upon completion you will receive a Certificate of Completion. No exam is required.
