Delegation of Authority Policy - 61.01
The president of Howard Community College will delegate authority to a designee to fulfill presidential duties for day-to-day absences from the office. In the case of a short-term absence of up to six-months, a vice president will be designated to act in the president’s role as recommended by the president and approved by the board. For long-term absences ranging six months to one year, the board of trustees will identify an “acting president.”
Regardless of the duration of the president’s absence, the individual will be selected from among the vice presidents. The president’s designee will make every effort to update the president on all pressing issues. On the rare day-to-day occasion that the president and all vice presidents are simultaneously away from the college, the president will delegate authority to an alternate.
A contingency plan that details college management in the absence of the college president is available in the office of the president.
