Student Advocacy Day is an annual, statewide event where students from Maryland's 16 community colleges share their stories with legislators and advocate for community college funding. HCC's 13 students spent the day advocating for equitable funding to support services and cohort programs. Oluwatunmise (Tunmise) Eboda, SGA VP, was selected as the keynote speaker and shares, "Affordable education is an investment in our future, one where everyone has an opportunity to meet their full potential."

The Howard County Economic Development Authority (HCEDA) has generously awarded a $60K grant that will cover full instructional costs for 17 registered apprentices studying in HCC’s cybersecurity certification program. "We look forward to seeing the success of this cohort of apprentices, and the college growing as a regional and national partner in cybersecurity capacity building,” said Jennifer Jones, CEO of HCEDA. At a January 27 press conference, HCC announced a collaboration with MakingChange, Inc. to offer free income tax preparation assistance to low-to-moderate income HCC students and Howard County residents. The initiative, set to kick off on designated days in February 2024, provides valuable support during tax season. HCC students are taking center stage at the upcoming Kennedy Center Festival. “We’re honored to be recognized for our theatre work at HCC!” said Bill Gillett, professor of theatre and chair of performing arts. “Bringing our performance of Medea to the KCACTF festival in Pittsburgh, will be a thrilling event for the cast and crew, and their experience at the festival will be an amazing opportunity for students to develop and shine!” Read More!

HCC proudly announces that Yang Yu, Ph.D. was appointed chair of the Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission by Governor Wes Moore. Dr. Yu is the Associate Dean of Liberal Studies at HCC. “I am deeply grateful to the Governor for the opportunity and to Dr. Willis for paving the way by appointing me to represent Howard County’s AAPI Commission for HCC,” said Dr. Yu.
