Howard County's Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) and the Columbia Housing Center (CHC) have announced a Student Rental Subsidy Program to help HCC students find and rent local housing. "This funding provides students and families vulnerable to housing insecurity the opportunity to receive assistance towards the cost of housing. Student Advocacy Day is an annual, statewide event where students from Maryland's 16 community colleges share their stories with legislators and advocate for community college funding. HCC's 13 students spent the day advocating for equitable funding to support services and cohort programs. Oluwatunmise (Tunmise) Eboda, SGA VP, was selected as the keynote speaker and shares, "Affordable education is an investment in our future, one where everyone has an opportunity to meet their full potential."

The Howard County Economic Development Authority (HCEDA) has generously awarded a $60K grant that will cover full instructional costs for 17 registered apprentices studying in HCC’s cybersecurity certification program. At a January 27 press conference, HCC announced a collaboration with MakingChange, Inc. to offer free income tax preparation assistance to low-to-moderate income HCC students and Howard County residents. The initiative, set to kick off on designated days in February 2024, provides valuable support during tax season.
