IMPACTFUL GIFT INSPIRES NEXT GENERATION
Howard Community College received the largest philanthropic gift in its history from visionary inventor and entrepreneur Thomas Clement and internationally renowned artist Wonsook Kim, who generously donated $2.5 million to support the college’s future. In recognition of this transformative gift, HCC’s Science, Engineering, and Technology Building was named Thomas P. Clement Hall, honoring their legacy of innovation and education.
Mr. Clement, a proud community college alumnus, has taken a deeply personal interest in student success, sharing his journey, and encouraging them to dream boldly. His investment is more than financial; it is a lasting inspiration for generations of students to come.
CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE IN FUNDRAISING AND FRIENDRAISING
In a historic achievement, the Howard Community College Educational Foundation raised a record-breaking $5.3 million during the 2024–2025 fiscal year—marking the highest single-year total in the college’s history. This extraordinary milestone reflects the deep generosity of donors, alumni, corporate partners, and community champions who believe in the power of accessible, high-quality education. Funds will directly support student scholarships, academic programs, and critical resources that remove barriers and transform lives. President Dr. Daria J. Willis praised the effort as “a powerful vote of confidence in our mission,” and a bold step toward ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed.
THE PRESIDENT’S GALA – AN EVENING TO REMEMBER
The HCC community came together for a dazzling evening at the President’s Gala. More than 400 leaders from government, industry, faith communities, and nonprofits gathered to celebrate student scholars and the opening of the Kahlert Foundation Complex. The event raised over $330,000 in scholarship funds, a record-breaking total for the Educational Foundation.
Among the attendees were Howard County Executive Dr. Calvin Ball, Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth, and Delegate Jessica Feldmark, along with hundreds of community supporters, alumni, and donors, all gathering at Power Plant LIVE! to celebrate HCC’s student success.
Guests were inspired by powerful student stories, enjoyed live entertainment, and experienced an atmosphere of generosity that underscored HCC’s mission. The Gala was more than a celebration; it was a resounding affirmation of the college’s impact and the community’s unwavering belief in the power of education.
SUPPORTING STUDENT COMPLETION
In a bold demonstration of student-centered support, Howard Community College’s Finish Line Campaign erased more than $83,000 in outstanding balances for nearly 100 graduates and continuing students. Launched in 2024, the campaign focused on eliminating small yet critical financial barriers that often prevent students from completing their degrees.
Through generous donor contributions and targeted outreach, HCC ensured that students could continue their studies without the weight of past-due accounts. This initiative is a powerful testament to the college’s commitment to equity, access, and the belief that no student should be stopped just steps from the finish line.
