The Howard Community College Educational Foundation (HCCEF) nearly doubled its fundraising goal of $2 million this year by raising $3.9 million. This historic outpouring of support for the college has created significant momentum as we embark upon a capital campaign to raise funds for the Workforce Development & Skilled Trades Center.
KAHLERT FOUNDATION GIFT AND LAST GAME
Howard Community College (HCC) reached a significant milestone by receiving its largest private donation, a generous $2 million gift from The Kahlert Foundation. This substantial contribution is aimed at enhancing students’ educational pursuits through financial support and comprehensive services. The funding will be directed towards multiple initiatives, including supporting a forthcoming Early College program, assisting student parents in the Career Links program, offering STEM scholarships, and providing resources for the on-campus food pantry and the college’s engineering program.
SILAS CRAFT COLLEGIANS DINNER
HCCEF hosted its 24th annual Silas Craft Collegians fundraiser in partnership with the Hunan Manor Restaurant to support the Collegians’ endowment and programming. The event raised over $48,000 in net funds.
VINO SCHOLASTICO
HCCEF hosted its 17th annual Vino Scholastico wine tasting fundraiser on April 28, 2023. Vino Scholastico netted $109,691 in 2023 ($14,691 over goal) to support vital college programs and scholarships. 100% of the net profits from Vino Scholastico go to supporting college programs and students in need.
HCC 5K CHALLENGE RACE – 10 YEARS, $1 MILLION
HCCEF celebrated the 5K Challenge Race’s 10th anniversary. The Challenge Race raised more than $120,000 in net funds this year to support college programs and scholarships, and more than $1 million over the last 10 years. The event focuses on corporate health and wellness programs for small and large organizations in our community while raising funds for student scholarships. The unique course spans the campus with obstacles to test strength, coordination, and endurance.
FOOD DRIVE - ALL HOWARD COUNTY GIANT FOOD STORES – FOOD LION FEEDS CHARITABLE FOUNDATION GIFT

Howard Community College’s Educational Foundation went out in the community to “Pack the Pantry” at seven Giant Foods in Howard County on Saturday, September 30, 2023. Students and employees received donations from community members to fight student hunger. HCCEF also received a $3,000 donation from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to combat food insecurity. HCCEF plans to use this funding to purchase fresh produce, meat, eggs, and dairy to ensure that the pantry remains well stocked.
HCC prioritizes food access as a metric of student support. HCCEF’s Fueling Dragons program includes initiatives like a campus food pantry, a garden, nutrition education, cooking classes, and meal kits to support students in need.
