
High School Diploma Programs

Our classes are:
- Taught by caring, experienced, and expert teachers.
- Filled with adults studying, just like you.
- Offered both day and night.
Winter/Spring classes begin February 1, 2021 and will be entirely online.
Registration begins in December 2020 and is by appointment only.

What to expect:
- Make sure your computer or smartphone has audio and video capabilities. You can use either for registration, but it is easier with a computer.
- Have your home address, phone number, and email address ready. For returning students, please have your HCC student ID number ready.
- Have your credit card or debit card ready to make payment.
- Download the Zoom app to video chat with an advisor in Zoom.

GED Testing Preparation
How does it work?
Successfully pass all four GED exams:
- Reasoning Through Language Arts
- Mathematical Reasoning
- Science
- Social Studies
Credential Earned: Maryland High School Diploma
This option is best for a student who:
- Prefers to study in a classroom
- Has strong timed test-taking skills
Preparation Courses and Costs- Math Review 1 & 2 $50
- Math Prep for GED $100
- Language Arts Review 1 & 2 $50
- Language Arts Prep for GED $100
The courses you take depends on placement tests and your effort. Not all students take all courses, and courses may not be taken sequentially.

RequirementsTo schedule the GED exams, you must be:- 17 years or older to take the exam (You must be 18 years or older to take one of our courses.)
- Officially withdrawn from high school
GED Exam Costs: $11.25 per subject exam ($45 total)

National External Diploma Program (NEDP)How does it work?Successfully create an electronic portfolio. Use the experience gained from work and life to show high school level skills while completing:
- Online tasks
- One-on-one, in-person assessments
Complete in six to 12 months after qualifying, depending on your starting skills and effort.
Credential Earned: Maryland High School Diploma
This option is best for a student who:
- Is a self-motivated, independent learner
- Has strong technology skills
Preparation Courses and Costs- NEDP Preparation Course: $50

RequirementsTo participate in NEDP, you must be:- 18 years or older
- Currently or recently employed
- Able to pass a reading, math, and writing assessment

Reading and Writing Courses
Language Arts Review I
This course is designed for students working towards earning their high school diploma. Topics are drawn from concepts in reading and writing and include the parts of speech; paragraph construction; grammar, punctuation, and capitalization; developing reading fluency; recognizing details, sequences, and comparisons; locating information in reference material. Free tuition. There is a $50 materials fee* collected at registration.
Math and Language Arts Review I
This course is designed for students working towards earning their high school diploma. Topics from math include number sense, place value, rounding, arithmetic, fractions, order of operations, interpreting graphs or charts, word problems, area, and perimeter. Topics are drawn from concepts in reading and writing and include the parts of speech; paragraph construction; grammar, punctuation, and capitalization; developing reading fluency; recognizing details, sequences, and comparisons; locating information in reference material. Free tuition. There is a $50 materials fee* collected at registration.
Language Arts Review II
This course is designed for students working towards earning their high school diploma. Topics include reading comprehension and analysis of a variety of texts and longer form writing. There is a $50 materials fee* collected at registration.
Language Arts Prep for GED®
This course is designed for students preparing to take the GED® Reasoning Through the Language Arts Test. Topics include reading and analyzing a variety of literary and informational texts; argumentative and persuasive writing; and, grammar. Students will also learn about the testing environment and requirements. $100 is collected at registration ($10 tuition and $90 in fees*).

Math Review I
This course is designed for students working towards earning their high school diploma or those needing a review to prepare for college-level mathematics. Topics include number sense, place value, rounding, arithmetic, fractions, order of operations, interpreting graphs or charts, word problems, area, and perimeter. Free tuition. Topics include operations and word problems with fractions, decimals, and percentages; proportions; ratios; solving equations; area; mean, median, and mode; perimeter; and, volume. Free tuition. There is a $50 materials fee* collected at registration.
Math Prep for GED®
This course is designed for students preparing to take the GED® Mathematical Reasoning Test. Topics from algebra and geometry are covered and include operations and word problems with rational numbers; solving linear and quadratic equations and inequalities; and, computing surface area and volume of composite shapes. Students will also learn about the testing environment and requirements. $100 is collected at registration ($10 tuition and $90 in fees*).
GED Math for ESL A & B
Explore and learn math vocabulary needed to begin preparing for the GED. Topics include whole number operations, decimals, fractions, percentages, and word problems. $50 materials fee.
