Climb the Maryland Pyramids! Maryland’s new Pyramid Model for Social and Emotional Competence courses (formerly SEFEL) are newly designed for child care, preschool and kindergarten teachers to address the needs of young children and include trauma-informed content. Introducing two new age-specific courses, for preschoolers and for infants and toddlers, with online and classroom options.

Understand, address, and prevent challenging behavior in children ages three through five. Practice positive ways to support children with challenging behaviors toward social competence and success. This is an online course, which takes about 18 hours to complete.

Gain strategies for understanding and addressing social-emotional behavior in children under three, and practice positive ways to support infants and toddlers toward social competence and success. In this class, all hours are conducted in the classroom.

Has a child’s angry or aggressive behavior ever challenged your progress in achieving your teaching goals? Have you wished you could help a child who has trouble getting along with others or making friends? Do you wish you had a better way to understand why a child exhibits challenging behavior and design a solution to support them toward positive behavior? Using the Pyramid Model of SEFEL (Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning), gain strategies for understanding, addressing and preventing challenging behavior in children ages 3–5, and practice positive ways to support children with challenging behaviors toward social competence and success. MSDE Core of Knowledge 18 clock hours. Refunds issued up until seven days before course start date. Online course takes about 18 hours to complete (your time may vary.) Online course has no classroom meetings. After you have registered, email ChildCareClasses@HowardCC.edu to receive an automated reply with login instructions for Canvas. Instructor’s contact information is listed on the syllabus in the online course. You will need access to a computer, the internet, and email to take this class. 1.8 CEUs.
(Flexible online classes use Canvas. Students will receive an automated email from HCC Password Services two weeks before the class start date.
