Hospitality Management Apprenticeships

The Food Service Manager apprenticeship program provides training to become a Chef, Kitchen Manager, or Back of House Manager. Apprentices will become proficient in the following competencies:

• Perform at the entry- to mid-level management position within a food preparation commercial operation.
• Develop skills related to cooking in the professional environment, including safe food handling and preparation.
• Perform satisfactory baking skills with attention to nutritional values in an industry-accepted manner.
• Demonstrate appropriate cost control, service, human resources, and financial management skills.
• Maintain industry and legal standards in reference to sanitation and safety.
• Schedule use of facilities or catering services for events such as banquets or receptions and negotiate details of arrangements with clients.
• Establish standards for personnel performance and customer service.
• Identify, understand, evaluate, and apply ethical reasoning.

The Hotel and Lodging Manager apprenticeship program will teach apprentices skills to become an Event Manager, Hospitality Manager, or Hotel and Lodging Manager. Apprentices will become proficient in the following competencies:

• Function at the entry-level or mid-level management position within the hospitality field.
• Execute and oversee basic skills involving lodging operations satisfactorily.
• Meet with clients to schedule and plan details of conventions, banquets, receptions, and other functions.
• Maintain appropriate cost control and financial management skills, such as the setting of room rates, the establishment of budgets, and the allocation of funds to departments.
• Utilize problem-solving skills related to managerial issues with the hospitality/tourism industry.
• Demonstrate beginning managerial techniques and supervisory skills, incorporating human resource management components.
• Coordinate services for events, such as accommodation and transportation for participants, facilities, catering, signage, displays, special needs requirements, printing, and event security.
• Operate in a context of legal, ethical, and service modes as set by the industry.
