This lecture-recital invites audiences to explore the rich and expressive world of Chinese art song, tracing its evolution from early 20th-century pioneers to contemporary composers. Through engaging commentary and live performances, presenters Hexin Qiao and Liangjun Shi will highlight the unique blend of Chinese poetry, pentatonic melody, and Western musical influences that shaped this vibrant repertoire. The program also offers listeners an accessible introduction to the colors and expressive qualities of traditional Chinese musical language and harmony.
