Three Howard Community College Students Named Semifinalists for Nationally Competitive Transfer Scholarship

Howard Community College (HCC) students Adeniwa Ajuwon, Calista Brigham, and Rebecca Overton are semifinalists for the competitive Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship through the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. These scholarships are awarded to community college students “who have demonstrated exceptional academic ability, leadership, and service transfer to top four-year institutions and avoid student debt.”
The finalists, who will be announced in May, could receive up to $55,000 per year for two to three years to complete a bachelor’s degree at any accredited four-year U.S. undergraduate institution. This year, 459 semifinalists were selected from 1,600 applicants, attending 194 community colleges in 37 states, plus Washington, D.C., and the Northern Mariana Islands.
In addition to financial assistance, the selected Cooke Transfer Scholars will have various educational opportunities, including academic advising, internships, study abroad and graduate school funding. Scholarship recipients can use the funds to cover tuition, books, fees and living expenses. They will also have access to a network of over 3,100 fellow Cooke scholars and alums.
