HCC students Adeniwa Ajuwon, Calista Brigham, and Rebecca Overton are semifinalists for the competitive Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship through the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. These scholarships are awarded to community college students “who have demonstrated exceptional academic ability, leadership, and service transfer to top four-year institutions and avoid student debt.” Congratulations to Adeniwa, Calista, and Rebecca! Student Advocacy Day is an annual, statewide event where students from Maryland's 16 community colleges share their stories with legislators and advocate for community college funding. HCC's 13 students spent the day advocating for equitable funding to support services and cohort programs. Oluwatunmise (Tunmise) Eboda, SGA VP, was selected as the keynote speaker and shares, "Affordable education is an investment in our future, one where everyone has an opportunity to meet their full potential."

HCC proudly announces that Yang Yu, Ph.D. was appointed chair of the Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission by Governor Wes Moore. Dr. Yu is the Associate Dean of Liberal Studies at HCC. “I am deeply grateful to the Governor for the opportunity and to Dr. Willis for paving the way by appointing me to represent Howard County’s AAPI Commission for HCC,” said Dr. Yu. HCC recently took center stage at the MD Department of Labor Apprenticeship Awards Ceremony during National Apprenticeship Week. The spotlight shone particularly bright on two Howard Community College students — Tiffany Gaither and Stacy Brown — who were both honored with the prestigious Outstanding Apprentice 2023 award. "It was an incredible and humbling experience to watch Tiffany and Stacy both win this coveted award,” said Jeff Richmond, director of apprenticeship & workforce innovation.
