Ages 12+. Dive deeper into the evolution of fantasy art, exploring its roots in Greek mythology and medieval monsters. This advanced course challenges participants to create intricate drawings of magical creatures and dynamic scenes, analyzing how characters respond to adversity. Students will enhance their skills by transforming their two-dimensional artwork into three-dimensional polymer clay sculptures, mastering form and texture. By the end, students will have a diverse portfolio and a richer understanding of storytelling within the fantasy genre. 1 week.

This music program invites intermediate and advanced students to ignite their creative musical expression and elevate their playing in a fun and intensive week focused on everything related to piano performance. Led by HCC piano faculty member Dr. Kuei-I Wu, the week offers masterclasses, workshops in technique and musicianship, and an opportunity to collaborate with fellow students in preparation for a fabulous final concert on Friday. Students must be able to play repertoire at the intermediate or advanced levels. Offered in cooperation with The Music Institute of Howard Community College. 1 week.

Ages 8–10. Get ready to run, jump, throw, catch, kick, and smile your way through a week of sporty fun! This high-energy course introduces students to a variety of sports, such as basketball, baseball/ softball, lacrosse, volleyball, flag football, pickleball, dodgeball, kickball, and more, giving them a chance to explore new activities, learn basic skills, and discover what they love most. Students will also enjoy age-appropriate strength and conditioning sessions in HCC’s state-of-the-art facilities, where they will practice proper movement patterns, boost stamina, and build coordination through playful speed and agility activities. With a focus on teamwork, sportsmanship, and  FUNdamental skill-building, this course is the perfect “try-it-all” experience for active students who are eager to play, learn, and score big with confidence! 1 week.

Students will rotate through an exciting line-up of sports, including basketball, baseball/softball, lacrosse, volleyball, flag football, pickleball, dodgeball, kickball, and more, while sharpening technique, strategy, and teamwork skills along the way. Strength and conditioning sessions will take place in HCC’s state-of the-art athletic facilities, where students will work on movement mechanics, speed, agility, endurance, and overall athletic performance. As they progress, athletes will be introduced to a thoughtful mix of bodyweight and beginner loaded strength exercises based on safety, form, and readiness. With a balance of skills, scrimmages, and performance training, this course empowers students to train smarter, play harder, and build the all-star mindset needed to shine both on and off the field. 1 week.

They’ll dive into the “ingredients of civilization,” discovering how early societies organized themselves and how they built the foundations of modern life. By the end of this adventure, students will be inspired to “think like a civilization” and see the world through the eyes of those who paved the way for today! 1 week.

From changing a tire to safely topping off wiper fluid, teens will learn how to handle common situations they’ll encounter as drivers. Students will get comfortable with everyday maintenance tasks, understand basic safety checks, and walk away feeling empowered to take care of their ride. Offered in conjunction with Goldsmith Education. Please note: an additional waiver form will need to be signed prior to the start of this course. 1 week. 

Ages 13+. This course prepares students to become responsible, confident caregivers. Students will learn CPR, First Aid, and emergency response skills, along with safe childcare practices and strategies for engaging children of different ages. The course also covers managing child behaviors, ensuring household safety, and building professionalism. In addition, students will gain businessskills to market and manage a babysitting service. Upon successful completion, participants earn a two-year CPR certification from the American Heart Association and a Credly Digital Badge to showcase their accomplishment. 1 week. 

Ages 13+. This course prepares students to become responsible, confident caregivers. Students will learn CPR, First Aid, and emergency response skills, along with safe childcare practices and strategies for engaging children of different ages. In the college’s state-of-the-art à la carte kitchen, they’ll master essential culinary skills like sautéing and other cooking techniques. From golden French toasts to perfectly cooked omelets, students will learn how to create chef-worthy, balanced breakfast meals. The class will wrap up with a “toast” to their success, celebrating the completion of this “egg”stra special course! This hands-on course is taught in HCC’s professional culinary kitchen. Ages 6–8. The world of cartoons is explored through hands-on activities that turn simple doodles into imaginative works of art. Students will dive into the fundamentals of comic strips, word bubbles, and dynamic lettering, all while bringing their own unique characters and scenes to life. Ages 15+. Attention high school juniors and seniors: A strong college essay is more important now than ever! With many schools maintaining test-optional admissions, your essay carries significant weight in showcasing who you are. In this interactive workshop, you'll learn from college admission experts, analyze sample essays, draft your own, and revise and edit your draft with support from the whole group. You might think you have nothing to write about, but there's an incredible essay in you, and this course will help you unearth it! 1 week. 

Ages 8–10. Dive into the ocean and see what unique creatures lurk in the deep! Students will explore the different oceans and seas and learn what makes each special. They will discover the various depths of the oceans and learn how whales, dolphins, sea anemones, eels, jellyfish, and other sea critters survive. In this interactive course, students will explore coral reefs, make their own ocean card game, build a fish, create their own ocean display, and find out if sharks are really as dangerous as they’ve been portrayed. 1 week. 

Ages 11–14. Being a changemaker doesn’t always mean marching in the streets; it can mean painting, building, performing, designing, or even launching a tiny-but-mighty business. Creativity is one of the most powerful tools young people have to spark action and shape a better world. In this 5-day course, students will explore how art, design, and entrepreneurship can become impact-tastic pathways for social change. Through hands-on projects, teamwork, and expressive challenges, students will discover fun and meaningful ways to make a difference while building the confidence to see themselves as leaders in their schools and communities. By the end of the course, every student will have created a mini portfolio of projects and contributed to a team campaign, proving that even small ideas can make a big splash! Ages 8–10. Join us for an inspiring experience that will ignite a passion for storytelling! Students will unleash their inner authors in this dynamic week-long writing workshop designed to refine their skills and explore new techniques not typically introduced until later in their education. Ages 6–8. Students will turn ordinary snacks into extra-ordinary art as they recreate famous masterpieces using candy, snacks, and other tasty tools. Each day serves up a new creative challenge, from fruity Van Gogh swirls to Picasso-inspired snack portraits. That’s equally artsy and deliciously fun. Students will explore colors, shapes, and textures while designing (and sometimes nibbling!) their edible creations. By the end of the course, they’ll have a gallery of tasty treasures and the skills to make art that's truly good enough to eat! 1 week.

Students will explore the fundamentals of engineering and simple machines, learning how pulleys, levers, gears, and more work together to power everyday objects. Ages 13+. This is the perfect opportunity for rising Algebra II, Geometry, or second-year Algebra I students to strengthen their foundation in algebra and prepare for more advanced concepts. Students will dive deeper into fundamental topics such as operations with positive and negative numbers, families of functions (linear, quadratic, rational, and exponential), polynomials, equations, systems of equations, inequalities, graphing, word problems, and radicals. Designed for students who have already completed an Algebra I course, this fast-paced class will help reinforce basic concepts while expanding understanding of more complex topics. A graphing calculator is required. 2 weeks. 

Ages 8–10. Ready to shake things up? Students will dive into the wacky and wild world of extreme weather! Join Team Discover as we learn more about lightning, tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes and volcanoes through hands-on fun. In this course, students will learn five of the most in-stitch-ual hand embroidery techniques: stem, chain, blanket, French knot, and feather. Students will observe cool electrostatics demonstrations, such as the Van de Graaff generator and Wimhurst machine. They will also get to measure electrical quantities, perform basic calculations, and build elementary DC circuits, electromagnets, and a simple DC electrical motor. A great way to engage young minds in the wonders of electricity and magnetism. 1 week.

Ages 8–10. This music program invites students to ignite their creative musical expression and learn the piano in a fun week focused on everything related to keyboard playing.
