Valuing Belonging
Howard Community College is committed to fostering an environment where all feel valued, respected, supported, and have a sense of belonging. We recognize the critical role of an educational institution in preparing its students, faculty, and staff to become contributing members of the global community. “We acknowledge that diversity is more than a concept or philosophy; it is a way of being. Diversity is recognizing, appreciating, respecting, listening to and learning from the unique backgrounds, talents and contributions of all people.” As such, we promote empathy and compassion, open communication, well-being, and inclusivity so that all belong.
HCC’s programs will reflect and respect all differences in age, gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, ethnic backgrounds, and ability/disability as well as the values of equal rights, equal access, and equal treatment. In order to assure success, all members of the college community must vigorously accept their responsibility of supporting the college’s strategic priority to support a culture of care and belonging. Cultivating a culture of care originates with the board of trustees and filters throughout every facet of the institution. For more information visit howardcc.edu/diversity.
