
Secondary Education - A.A. Degree (Transfer)
HCC's secondary education associate of arts (A.A.) degree programs prepare students to transfer to a four-year college or university secondary education program in their declared major.
Areas of study include:
- Humanities/Arts
- Mathematics/Science
- Social Sciences
Secondary Education is defined as grades seven through twelve in the state of Maryland. Teachers are needed in our society to educate and prepare students to be useful and productive citizens.
This curriculum prepares students to transfer to a Secondary Education program at a baccalaureate college or university. Students should work with an advisor to check the specific requirements of the major and institution to which they intend to transfer.
As a graduate, you should be able to:
- Demonstrate foundational knowledge of the learning process, as well as child and adolescent development, with an emphasis on students with special needs.
- Demonstrate foundational knowledge of content including the theories, concepts, and skills central to the discipline or disciplines one intends to teach.
- Demonstrate foundational knowledge of teaching practices including construction of engaging learning activities, assessment for and of learning, and the design and maintenance of supportive learning environments.
- Engage in ethical reasoning in the educational field.
