Demand for mechatronics technicians is growing, with more than 1,300 new positions opening to fill current vacancies. These skilled professionals operate, test, and maintain robotic and electromechanical equipment. With hands-on training, you’ll be ready for a high-tech career in a field that’s always evolving.
Mechatronics by the Numbers
Mechatronics occupations are expected to grow nationally and have an expected growth of 1.1 percent, with over 1300 unfilled openings per year according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. In Maryland, the average annual salary for mechatronics technicians is over $75,000, higher than the national median pay, with median entry-level wages starting at approximately $47,000 per year.
As demand continues to increase and workers retire or transfer to other positions, newly trained Mechatronics technicians will be needed to handle an increased workload.
Mechatronics Technician Course Options at HCC
HCC offers unique options for students to prepare for success in the field of Mechatronics.
The Certificate Program is ideal for students who are not certain they want to pursue a bachelor's degree but do want to improve their job prospects. The 33-credit program can be completed in as little as 2 semesters, with flexible scheduling options, including day, evening, weekend and online courses available to allow students to balance their educational goals with their outside commitments. Graduates of the Mechatronics Certificate program will complete the following courses:
- Introduction to Computer-Aided Drafting & Design
- Fundamental Skills for Technology and Engineering
- Industrial Safety
- Introduction to Electronic Circuits
- Mechanical Systems
- Electronic Control Systems
- Pneumatics & Hydraulics
- Robotics
- Advanced PLC, VFD, & Controls
For students who plan to continue on to a bachelor’s degree, the A.A.S. Degree is a smart option. Earn an intermediate credential with credits that also count towards an associate degree.
