Workforce Investment Act
Please help us meet the requirements of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) which requires tracking the employment results of students in approved career-related courses. One or more of your classes falls under the WIOA category, and we are evaluated by the number of students who are employed within six months after completing the course(s). HCC is required to collect the WIOA program student social security numbers (SSNs) and report them to the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC). MHEC then verifies the employment status of students after completion of the program. This enables HCC to remain eligible for WIOA approval which may enable certain students to receive funding for the training via a local One Stop Center.
We understand your concerns about protecting your information. SSNs will only be used for employment verification for the time period cited above and will not be disclosed to any other entities by MHEC or Howard Community College. Your social security number will be provided to MHEC through a secure mechanism and is kept in a secure college database behind a firewall.
Thank you for your cooperation and assistance. You are helping HCC and your fellow students receive relevant, career-related education.
