Program Description
Embark on a journey to Nairobi, Kenya considered the foremost geopolitical power of Africa and the Indo-Pacific. You can earn college credit while exploring the intersection of International Policing, Criminology, and Geopolitics in the Cradle of Mankind. This program is a collaboration with Africa’s premier Social Science and Criminological Institute-United States International University (USIU)-Africa, Nairobi, Kenya. Your International Policing experience consists of a basic lesson in Swahili, attending Comparative Criminal Justice courses at USIU, and visiting the Directorate of Criminal Investigations. You’ll apply criminological concepts when visiting Kimati Prison, Langata Women’s Prison Justice Center, and the Dedan Kimathi Memorial. Lastly, you’ll gain an understanding of Kenya’s global geopolitical position with a Intercultural Competence Workshop and outings to Independent Medico-Legal Unit; Nairobi City; Nairobi National Park; The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust – Elephant Orphanage; Bomas of Kenya; the Giraffe Center; and Kazuri Bead Factory.
Students will stay in three-star hotel and should be prepared to walk up to ten miles per day over uneven terrain in temperatures reaching 90 degrees Fahrenheit with additional visits to the Maasai Cultural Center and Zebra Plains Mara Camp Game Drive.
