Ely

After twenty years in the Army, Ely knew it was time to return to his first love: music.
Ely worked in telecommunications for most of his twenty year career in the Army. When he retired from the military, he became a government contractor in the information technology field, but the demanding schedule was putting stress on his family life. His wife suggested that he go back to school on the GI Bill and do something that he loved. What he loved was music, so even though he hadn’t picked up his trumpet in 25 years and had never had formal lessons, he enrolled in HCC’s music program and earned an associate degree in jazz performance.
Ely plans to continue his studies and become a music teacher for underprivileged youth. “HCC’s rigorous program and top-notch faculty put it on a par with prestigious music schools. Being out of school for so long and having ADHD made it tough at first, but HCC’s academic and disability support services got me through.”
