Choral Academy
Ages 11+. Interested in honing vocal skills, joining a community of other singers, and spending a week making music with a chorus? Join the Choral Academy and Howard County choral conductor Ashley Kitchelt to learn vocal technique, musicality, and more through a variety of music. A final concert on Friday will showcase what was prepared over the course of the week.
Tuition: $249 (includes $60 in fees*)

Dragons Strings
This music program invites students to ignite their creative musical expression and elevate their playing in a fun and intensive week focused on everything related to stringed instrument performance. Led by HCC Music Institute strings faculty members Mallory Matson and Wesley Hamilton, the week offers workshops as well as opportunities for collaboration with fellow students in preparation for an exciting final concert on Friday. Students must bring their own instruments. At least one year of private lessons or ensemble experience within the most recent school year is required.

Drummin Dragons
Drummin Dragons for Beginners
NEW! New to percussion or still in the first year of playing in a school band? Drummin' Dragons for Beginners is the perfect introduction to the fundamentals of percussion playing. Students build a strong foundation with a focus on technique and music reading for snare drum and mallets. Along the way, participants will explore a wide range of percussion instruments, dive into hand drumming sessions, and try out fun improvisation activities. Students should bring their own sticks, mallets, and drum pad/bell kit (if owned).

Drummin Dragons (full day program)
Drummin’ Dragons Percussion Camp will offer percussionists the resources to take their playing to the next level. Through clinics and masterclasses from the area’s leading percussionists and educators, students will be exposed to a wide variety of percussion topics including snare drum, mallet percussion, timpani, drum set, world percussion, improvisation, percussion ensemble, and more! A grand finale percussion ensemble concert will close out the week. Students must bring their own sticks, mallets, and a bag lunch every day. At least one year of percussion experience within the most recent school year is required.

Piano Academies
Piano Academy for Beginners
NEW! This music program invites students to ignite their creative musical expression and learn the piano in a fun week focused on everything related to keyboard playing. The week features workshops, musical activities, and group lessons in our keyboard lab.

Advanced Piano Academy
NEW! This music program invites intermediate and advanced students to ignite their creative musical expression and elevate their playing in a fun and intensive week focused on everything related to piano performance. Led by HCC piano faculty member Dr. Kuei-I Wu, the week offers masterclasses, workshops in technique and musicianship, and an opportunity to collaborate with fellow students in preparation for a fabulous final concert on Friday. Students must be able to play repertoire at the intermediate or advanced levels.

NEW SUMMER 2026: Adult Piano Retreat, Mastering the Keys
Connect with a community of piano enthusiasts in a specially designed experience for intermediate and advanced pianists. Get fresh ideas in lectures on refining your technique, musical interpretation, and efficient practice habits in an inspirational week that goes beyond the surface to the art of piano playing. 1 week: June 8–12; 9 a.m.–4 p.m., June 13–14; 1–3 p.m.

Private Lessons
The Music Institute offers a variety of private lesson options — including classical, jazz, rock, and folk music — for music students of all ages and levels of experience in the summer and throughout the year.
