ARTsites
Now in its fourteenth year, the Howard County Arts Council's ARTsites program creates new visual landmarks and engages the community by sponsoring 12-month installations of public art across the county with a mission to make the arts accessible to all. Howard Community College has participated in ARTsites since the first year of the program. To learn more about the ARTsites program, visit www.hocoarts.org/artsites.
Howard Community College’s ARTsites 2025 piece, “Earth Song” was created by artist Cathrin Hoskinson, who shared that “the image is like a flower bud emerging from its cover, or hands entwined in friendship. The poetic references are to growth, becoming, yearning, and joy.” The sculpture, formed from aluminum and stainless steel, is located on the West patio of the Kahlert Foundation Complex, bringing a pop of color to the landscape as guests enter college grounds from Hickory Ridge Road. “Earth Song” will be on campus through the summer of 2026, joining four previous ARTsites pieces now permanently installed, including “The Cycle,” “Autumn Amber,” “Basalt Man,” and "BLM."
The college's ARTsites 2024 piece, “Crows with Assets” is now on extended loan, remaining in its current location on the quad for the 2025-2026 academic year.
