Obtaining a good education is a fundamental step in securing a good job. Our contributions enable students to receive support and guidance to ensure a successful and enjoyable experience at HCC.

The Kahlert Foundation supports Howard Community College through funding student programs, scholarships, and STEM facilities, expanding access to education and strengthening community impact.

“It is extremely important that the U.S. excel in the areas of science, engineering and technology,” said Greg Kahlert, president of the Kahlert Foundation, Inc. “It all starts with education, and having lived in Howard County most of my life, I want to support the college that provides great learning opportunities for so many local students. Supporting education is one of the priorities of the Kahlert Foundation.”

Mr. Kahlert’s recent $150,000 philanthropic donation to the college will further educational programming at the college for students facing some of the greatest challenges, such as Disability Support Services and the Silas Craft Collegians Program, as well as student support and scholarship programs to assist students with needs for financial assistance. Collectively, these programs provide greater access to learning tools and advanced education for many HCC students, which is personally fulfilling for Mr. Kahlert.

With his donation, Kahlert will be naming the shared study area and community room in the brand new, state of the art Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) building on campus, opening in 2017. Ultimately this space will give engineering students and STEM majors a common area to meet, learn, and network.

“About 75 percent of the students that attend Howard Community College reside in this county, which contributes to economic growth in this area,” said Mr. Kahlert. “Obtaining a good education is a fundamental step in securing a good job. Our contributions enable students to receive support and guidance to ensure a successful and enjoyable experience at HCC.”

The Kahlert Foundation was established in 1991 by William Kahlert, co-founder of EVAPCO, Inc., a global manufacturer of evaporative cooling products, based in Taneytown, MD. Upon his passing in 2011, William devoted a large portion of his estate to the family foundation, with a vision to provide ongoing support to local organizations, initiatives, and programs that have the potential to make a long-lasting, positive impact on the community.

“My daughter attended HCC several years ago and had a great experience; in fact she said that she received the best education here,” he said. “It feels good to give back to the college that provided her with such a good experience, and that is working hard to do the same for so many other members of our community.”
