DIRECTORS' NOTES
Ben Strigle
“I connected deeply with this work (Iron) when I first saw it produced at Towson for their 24-hour PlaySlam festival. I initially wanted to adapt it for the screen, but after the passing of my grandmother in 2024, I found myself thinking of the family in this play and decided I wanted to re-stage it before trying to film it. I think there’s a real beauty in the spaces between grief and celebration of life, when nobody knows what to say or how to feel, but everybody knows they’re all feeling the same way."
Florense’Olivea David
“I liked this play (Between) simply because the situation felt human. Uncomfortable conversations that have to happen, and the unsureness of life. John Guare writes dialogue-driven plays that blend realism with subtle absurdity to explore identity, illusion, and the struggle for human connection beneath everyday conversation.
Adrian Kemah
“Sorrowful Revenge is a musically tuned fight show.”
Tiyana Waldron
“I wrote this play (Deadline) as a way to branch out into other aspects of theatre other than just acting. This is the first play I have ever written.
Diana Novelo-Someta
“I selected this play (21 Chump Street) because I absolutely love the work Lin Manuel-Miranda put into the process of this piece; his passion for writing, theatre, and research is something that inspires me. Lin Manuel-Miranda is also famous for Hamilton, In the Heights, and writing songs for many amazing Disney projects.”

Zaylani Barkley (Naomi - 21 CHUMP STREET), taking on the role of Naomi, is back at HCC after surviving the rollercoaster in Ride the Cyclone, where she played Constance Blackwood. When she's not busy slaying vocals, serving looks and belting her heart out she's probably doing her makeup or baking cookies. 21 Chump Street marks her second musical at HCC, and she's ready to bring the drama (and the laughs). Zaylani would like to thank her mom, family, and friends for being supportive!
Elena Bryson (Tara - SORROWFUL REVENGE) is a recent graduate of HCC with an Associate of the Arts in Theatre. She is delighted to head into the woods for this exciting adventure! She would like to thank her director, Jenny, for consistently believing in her and giving her opportunities to do what she loves, as well as the cast and crew for making this a truly magical production! HCC’s Theatre Program is also a participating member of the American College Theatre Festival (ACTF).

The aims of this national theater education program are to identify and promote quality in college-level theater production. To this end, each production entered is eligible for a response by a regional ACTF representative, and selected students and faculty are invited to participate in ACTF programs involving scholarships, internships, grants and awards for actors, directors, dramaturgs, playwrights, designers, stage managers and critics at both the regional and national levels.
Productions entered on the Participating level are eligible for invitation to the ACTF regional festival and may also be considered for national awards recognizing outstanding achievement in production, design, direction and performance. Last year more than 1,500 productions were entered in the ACTF involving more than 200,000 students nationwide. By entering this production, our theater department is sharing in the ACTF goals to recognize, reward, and celebrate the exemplary work produced in college and university theaters across the nation.
