DIRECTOR'S NOTE
I’m so happy you were able to join us for this Anomalous experience. This has been an exciting journey which has stretched our students’ understanding of theatre, and it’s been a lot of fun. The inspiration for this show came from many sources from science fiction, horror, and popular culture. Most influential was a performance I attended of a similar style at a theatre festival in California.
As a professor, my focus is always drawn to student outcomes. What do I hope my student-actors will learn from this experience? For this production, we are drawing attention to the relationship between actor and audience by changing the circumstances, not only in different audience configurations, but also constantly acknowledging the audience as part of the story. These performers must not only maintain awareness of the audience but also sometimes interact directly or manage the audience. This kind of experience develops actor’s presence and prepares them for similar experiences, which you can find with guided tours, museums, and theme parks.
Thank you for joining us for this theatrical experiment!
Bill Gillett
