A series of oral history interviews were conducted in 2018-2019 in anticipation of the college's 50th anniversary and 2004 in honor of the college's 35th anniversary. Some of HCC’s longest serving faculty, staff and administrators were interviewed.
President Kathleen Hetherington
Kathleen Hetherington became the fourth president of Howard Community College in 2007. Prior to her presidency, Dr. Hetherington served HCC as the executive vice president, capital campaign manager, and vice president of student services. Watch Dr. Hetherington's full interview.
Lynn Coleman
Lynn Coleman has been a member of the Howard Community College faculty and staff since 1986. She has served as comptroller and as vice president of administration and finance. Watch Lynn Coleman's full interview.
Valerie Lash
Valerie Lash has been a member of the Howard Community College faculty and staff since 1982. She has served as professor of Theatre, dean of Arts and Humanities, and is the Founding Producer and Artistic Director of Rep Stage, HCC’s regional professional Equity theatre in residence. Patti Turner

Former President Dwight A. Burrill
Dwight A. Burrill was appointed as the second president of Howard Community College in 1981. Dr. Burrill had previously served as the president of the West Campus of Cuyahoga Community College. Peggy Armitage
Peggy Armitage has been a member of the Howard Community College faculty and staff since 1976. She has served the college first as a counselor, then as professor of Psychology in the Social Sciences and Teacher Education Division. Watch Peggy Armitage's full interview.
Pam Cornell

Helen Mitchell

Former President Mary Ellen Duncan
Mary Ellen Duncan was appointed as the third president of Howard Community College in 1998. Dr. Duncan came to HCC from the State University of New York system. She served as president of HCC for nine years, retiring from that position in 2007. Former President Mary Ellen Duncan was interviewed for HCC's 35th Anniversary.
Former President Alfred J. Smith, Jr.
Alfred J. Smith, Jr. was the first president of Howard Community College. Dr. Smith was appointed in 1969 and had previously served as the Academic Dean at Corning Community College. He served as president of HCC for twelve years, and retired from that position in 1981. Former President Alfred J. Smith, Jr. was interviewed for HCC's 35th Anniversary.
