The participation of a company in a career event (e.g., Job Fair, Internship Fair, On-Campus Recruiting), or in our online job/internship database, Handshake, does not imply any HCC endorsement of the company, its products, or services. Job seekers should evaluate information carefully and take whatever action is deemed appropriate.
The Counseling and Career Services office at Howard Community College discourages students from entering into businesses that require paying a fee or buying products as a condition of employment or whose pay structure is based on a multilevel commission basis. Representatives of multilevel marketing companies are prohibited from recruiting students or promoting their business or products on campus (e.g., On-Campus Recruiting, Internship Fair, Job Fair) or via our online job database, Handshake. Counseling and Career Services reserves the right to block an employer, permanently or temporarily, from engaging in recruitment activity that is deemed unethical or unprofessional.
HCC will not support employment or internship opportunities whereby there is a connection with the cultivation, production, sale, or distribution of marijuana or Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)-infused products. This is in accordance with the Congressional Bill H.R.3614, section 1213 that indicates, “Amends the Higher Educational Act of 1965 (HEA) to bar an institution of higher education from receiving funds or any other Federal financial assistance, including any federally funded or guaranteed student loans, unless it certifies to the Secretary that it has adopted and implemented a program to prevent the use of illicit drugs and the abuse of alcohol by students and employees.” This prohibition is to ensure HCC’s compliance with federal law.
