
Academic Standing Policies
Dean's List
Academic Standing Measures: 3.5 GPA or higher for full time students who completed 12 credits with no F, L or W grade in nominated semester.
Academic Outcomes: Recognized as outstanding students; honored at a reception in March.
Dean’s List for Part-Time Students
Academic Standing Measures: Accumulated 12 or more credits; Completed 6 credits in the semester nominated with a 3.5 GPA; no F, L or W grade in nominated semester.
Academic Outcomes: Recognized as an outstanding student; honored at a reception in March.
Good Standing
Academic Standing Measures: Earned a 2.0 GPA or higher in the semester; if cumulative GPA is below 2.0, students’ academic standing is determined by both attempted credits an d a minimum cumulative GPA.
Academic Outcomes: Students may continue to pursue their academic goals with no restrictions.
Attempted Credits:
- 12-15 credits requires a minimum GPA of 1.0
- 16-30 credits requires a minimum GPA of 1.5
- 31-40 credits requires a minimum GPA of 1.75
- 41 or greater credits requires a minimum GPA of 2.0
Academic Warning
Academic Standing Measures: After attempting 12 credits, students who do not meet the minimum cumulative GPA for attempted credits for Good Standing.
Academic Outcomes: Students must complete an on-line assessment and meet with an academic success coordinator to register in future semesters; students who earn a 2.0 semester GPA in the following semester and meet the minimum GPA requirements will be moved to Good Standing.
Academic Probation
Academic Standing Measures: Students who were on Academic Warning and did not achieve a 2.0 semester GPA or meet the minimum cumulative GPA standard will be placed on Academic Probation.
Academic Outcomes: Students must meet with their academic success coordinator and will be limited to 8 academic credits. Students earning at least a 2.0 semester GPA while on academic probation will continue on academic probation until they reach good standing.
Academic Suspension
Academic Standing Measures: Students who were on academic probation and did not achieve a 2.0 semester GPA during the next major semester are placed on Academic Suspension.
Academic Outcomes: Suspended students will be unable to attend HCC the next major semester. Suspended students may appeal their academic suspension. If an appeal is granted, students will remain on academic probation. Students must achieve a 2.0 semester GPA or they will be dismissed again for an entire year.
