Construction Management - Certificate (Career)

Jake Gallagher working in a construction job after completing the Construction Management course at HCC.
Build a future in construction management.

The demand for construction managers is projected to grow twice as fast as other management occupations by 2022 due to population growth, an aging infrastructure, and the continual emergence of energy efficiency trends.

Construction managers, also called general contractors, are responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising construction projects from initiation to completion - on time and within budget.

Construction Management by the Numbers

Construction management occupations have an expected growth of 11 percent nationally and 10 percent locally from 2016–2026, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. In Maryland, the average annual salary for construction managers is $107,700, higher than the national median pay, with median averages for entry-level wages standing at $64,800 per year.

As demand continues to increase and workers retire or transfer to other positions, newly trained construction managers will be needed to handle an increased workload.

Construction Management Course Options at HCC

HCC offers three unique options for students to prepare for success in architectural, engineering, project management, or general contracting jobs.

The Certificate Program, which you are viewing now, is ideal for students who are not certain they want to pursue a bachelor's degree, but do want to improve their job prospects. For students who plan to eventually pursue a bachelor’s degree, the A.A.S. Degree is a good fit.  Earn an intermediate credential with credits that also count towards an associate degree.
