Off-the-shelf training
An “off-the-shelf” training program is one that HCC has already prepared and vetted for the community, and classes can be noncredit or credit. This turnkey solution is beneficial for employers whose employees need a specific industry recognized credential. For example, Training and Development Solutions offers an accredited program to prepare students for their CompTIA A+ Certification – the preferred certification for entry level technical support and IT operational roles. HCC’s training program includes courses on personal computer systems repair, operating systems fundamentals and network cabling.

Personalized training
With personalized training programs, HCC adds individual touches to off-the-shelf programs to incorporate a business and its brand. Courses can be modified to include pages with company logos or mission statements. HCC can also add components to an existing course that make it more relatable to a company’s culture or compress an existing training to meet training timelines.
When a regional child care and youth organization needed to train staff in Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance, HCC created a personalized training program that fit its needs. The quick turnaround on the program enabled the organization to offer training before its licensing renewal deadline.

Customized training
Customized training programs are built from the ground up to address an organization’s specific challenges with tailor-made content. Training and Development Solutions’ instructional design and training team uses the Instructional Systems Design (ISD) model to ensure the highest quality of course analysis, design, development and delivery methods. All customized courses incorporate adult learning principles, are highly interactive and are immediately applicable to the workplace.
This program is particularly well suited for emerging leaders in organizations where the training will have a long-lasting, positive and widespread impact and return on investment.
In 2017, Howard County government leaders asked HCC to create a new, customized supervisory training program for government employees. Training and Development Solutions team members developed and delivered a six-course training series focused on building supervisory skills to help meet the needs of Howard County residents. A year later, HCC created another training program for the county government to improve employee communication and presentation skills, promote emotional intelligence and educate employees about gender diversity.
