Develop your English while learning job-specific vocabulary and workplace skills. Our courses will prepare you for a variety of careers, including:

    English for Careers: Bookkeeping and Accounting (Level 2+)
    Improve your English skills while learning vocabulary needed to pursue a career as a bookkeeper or accountant. This course includes basic math skills, computer skills, and business ethics. It is a foundational course for the HCC Credit certification in bookkeeping. Free tuition; material fees collected during registration. 
     
    English for Careers: CDL Permit Preparation (Level 2+)
    Improve your English while preparing to get your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) permit. In this class, you will learn the vocabulary needed to understand the Motor Vehicle Administration’s (MVA) CDL test along with other English skills that are essential for commercial drivers. This course is a pre-requisite for the English for CDL Class B License course that will be held in the spring semester. Free tuition; material fees collected during registration. 
     
    English for Careers: CNA/PCT (Level 3+)
    Are you interested in a career in health care? Start here! Become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Patient Care Technician (PCT). This class will provide English language support, as well as the hands-on knowledge needed to be hired in the healthcare field. You will also focus on improving your skills in English reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Free tuition. **Interested students should complete an application available at the ELC office in HR-200. Email elccna@howardcc.edu for more information.** 
     
    English for Careers: Computer Skills for the Office (Level 2+)
    Improve your computer abilities while learning English. You will learn computer skills to work in an office. Learn to use computer applications like Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint to create and edit documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Improve your internet skills as you learn to research jobs. This course will also help you improve your English reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. Free tuition; material fees collected during registration. 
     
    English for Careers: Construction (Level 2+)
    Improve your English skills while learning vocabulary needed for jobs in trades such as construction, green jobs, and manufacturing. Learn about the American workplace, OSHA safety standards, and how to interview. You will also focus on improving your reading, writing, listening, speaking skills. Free tuition; material fees collected during registration. 
     
    English for Careers: Cybersecurity (Level 4+)
    This course will introduce advanced-level ESL learners to the field of cybersecurity. Learn about virus and malware basics, network, Wi-Fi, and mobile security, along with additional topics. You will also focus on improving your reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. Free tuition; material fees collected during registration. 
  • Multicultural Banking and Finance Training
    Career Pathway Exploration Workshop (Level 2+)
    These workshops will help you explore career options and develop the skills you need to start planning your career. Topics will include financial education, goal setting, career exploration, and searching for jobs. You will also learn about career paths in industries like banking, education, healthcare, and technology. Free tuition; material fees collected during registration.
     
    Banking and Finance Training for Bilingual Speakers (Level 4+)
    Learn about the world of banking and finance! Professional and organizational skills, such as workplace expectations and customer interactions, will be addressed.  You will take part in mock interviews and networking opportunities. You will also discuss the cultural differences and their impact in the workplace, learn industry specific vocabulary, and practice various types of professional writing, such as emails, memos, business letters, and resumes. Written application and oral interview are required. Free tuition; material fees collected during registration.
