ESL Registration and Placement Testing

Our experienced advisors can help you choose a class that fits your need. 

Fall classes began on August 30. It is too late to register for most classes. The following classes are still open:

  • Business Idioms (Level 5): Flexible Online, no Zoom. 6-week course. Must register by Oct 18 and complete course by Dec 4.
  • English for Childcare (Level 3+): Scheduled Zoom. Mon/Wed 6:45–8:45pm, Oct 11–Dec 6.
  • English for Citizenship (Level 3+): Scheduled Zoom. Sat 9am-1:30pm, Sep 11-Nov 13
  • English for Information Technologh (Level 4+): Scheduled Zoom. Sat 9am-1:30pm, Sep 11-Dec 4
  • Grammar Skills (Level 3+): Flexible Online, no Zoom. 6-week course. Must register by Oct 18 and complete course by Dec 4.
  • Life Skills English Pre-Beginning A: In-Person. Sat 9am-1:30pm, Sep 11-Dec 4
  • Life Skills English 1A: In-Person. Sat 9am-1:30pm, Sep 11-Dec 4
  • Life Skills English 2A: In-Person. Sat 9am-1:30pm, Sep 11-Dec 4
  • Reading & Writing 1A: In-Person. Sat 9am-1:30pm, Sep 11-Dec 4

If you would like to regiser for one of the above classes, you can register in-peron in the Hickory Ridge Building, Room 200 during the following times:

  • Monday–Thursday, 9am–7pm
  • Friday, 9am–3pm
  • Saturday, 9am–11am

What to bring to registration:

  • Face mask (must be worn at all times)
  • Payment (credit/debit card, cash, check)

Important Information about Registration

  • Students must be 16 or older to register.
  • All students pay the listed prices. Fees are not eligible for waiver.
  • Out-of-county fee is $10 and out-of-state fee is $20.
  • Only ages 60+ are eligible for tuition waiver.
  • All refund or transfer requests MUST BE emailed to elc@howardcc.edu.

  • Online Registration

    Our ability to offer online registration is now extremely limited. We ask that you come to in-person registration to register for class or to make transfers at the following times.

    • Monday–Thursday, 9am–7pm
    • Friday, 9am–3pm
    • Saturday, 9-11am

    We are able to offer a few online appointments for students in the following circumstances:

    • Live out-of-state or outside the U.S.
    • Want to register for one of our Flexible Online classes (no Zoom). 
    • It is impossible to come to in-person registration

    What to prepare for your online appointment:

    • Make sure your computer has audio and video capabilities. It would be easier to use a computer or a laptop instead of a cell phone for online registration.
    • Download the Zoom app to video chat with an advisor in Zoom.
    • Have your home address, phone number, and email address ready.
    • For returning students, have your HCC student ID number ready.
    • Have your credit card or debit card ready to make payment.

Full-Time Intensive English Program

If you want to study English full time, our English Institute (EI) offers a full-time program for F1 international students and U.S. residents. Study 18 hours a week, receive special advising and support, and take part in activities to meet new friends as well as improve English skills.
