Basic Rider Course
Learn how to ride.
What will you learn in the course?
This course is the least expensive way to find out if motorcycling is for you. You will learn about:
• Safe riding
• Choosing a motorcycle and gear
• Riding skills
• Defensive riding strategies
• How to handle various riding situations
Ample riding time allows practice controlling the clutch/throttle, stopping, turning, shifting, and avoiding crashes.
Course content is approved by the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) and meets or exceeds Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) standards. Instructors are MVA and MSF certified.
The Basic Rider Course (BRC) and the Absolute Beginner Basic Rider Course (ABC) require the completion of a three-hour online component before class meets. The online component will prepare you for your first riding experience and covers topics like basic operation, preparing to ride and some more advanced topics like risk and riding, and basic street strategies.
What will you receive when you complete the course?
To receive the MVA Motorcycle Safety Program course completion certificate, you must attend all class sessions and pass written and riding evaluations. When you successfully complete this course, you meet the requirements for earning a Maryland (Class "M) Motorcycle License. Riding is not for everyone and some participants will not successfully complete the course. MVA rules require that students who do not achieve minimum performance standards cannot continue. There are no refunds.
How much does this course cost?
The course costs $345.
