Dispensary Technician
Dispensary Technicians work in the health care field, in medical cannabis dispensaries, performing day-to-day operations, helping patients with the Maryland state regulations process, and working with patients to find the best delivery methods and products that suit their needs and ensure proper dosing and usage. The national average salary for a Dispensary Technician is $34,470/year* in the United States, and averages $15.75/hour* in the Baltimore region. The medical cannabis industry is new in Maryland and is rapidly growing. There are already over 100 dispensaries in Maryland, and demand for qualified Dispensary Technicians is increasing.
Dispensary Technician I and II
In under six months, you can be ready for a new career as a Dispensary Technician. HCC’s training, taught by industry experts, aligns with regulations and best practices of the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission (MMCC). Upon successful completion of this training, you will obtain a college certificate and be well-prepared to seek immediate employment in a state authorized medical cannabis dispensary. If so, you may be interested in a career in the new and rapidly growing medical cannabis industry. This course is the first of two in a series and provides the training you need to work in a medical cannabis dispensary. You will learn an overview of the Dispensary Technician's role, practice professional skills and responsibilities involved in day-to-day operations, and learn Maryland regulations for dispensary operations. Class sessions are conducted in Zoom and Canvas; you will receive links and instructions one week before the class begins. Register for both XH-244 and XH-245; successful completion of both classes is required to earn the Dispensary Technician certificate. No refund seven days prior to course start date. 30 hours, 3.0 CEUs.
This course is the second in a series and is designed to provide occupational training to work in a medical cannabis dispensary. This course focuses on medicinal knowledge, patient care and education aspects of the Dispensary Technician’s role. Topics include: recent research on medicinal cannabis, medicinal properties of cannabis, managing the patient experience, counseling methodology and practices. Class sessions are conducted in Zoom and Canvas; you will receive links and instructions one week before the class begins. Prerequisite: XH-244; successful completion of both XH-244 & XH-245 is required to earn the Dispensary Technician certificate. No refund seven days prior to course start date. 3.0 CEUs.
Prerequisite: XH-244 Dispensary Technician I.
