If you’re a licensed dental hygienist who needs to learn how to administer and monitor nitrous oxide or perform local anesthesia in the clinical setting, then our courses can help you as you prepare for the Commission on Dental Competency Assessment (CDCA) exam.

Local Anesthesia for Maryland Dental Hygienists *NEW!*

This course is designed to prepare licensed dental hygienists to perform local anesthesia in the clinical setting and to take the Commission on Dental Competency Assessment (CDCA) exam. You will learn through didactic and laboratory exercises, the fundamentals of local anesthesia administration, pain control concepts, and special considerations.

Participants are required to serve as a clinical partner and complete a written assignment. This course meets the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners (MSBDE) requirements for licensed dental hygienists. In order to prepare you for the practice of local anesthesia administration, participants must complete a written assignment, summarizing basic anatomy and physiology related to local anesthesia administration.

You must register no later than January 2 and email Jasmin Haley at jhaley@howardcc.edu to receive detailed assignment instructions. Assignments must be submitted by January 9. Late registrations will be considered at the discretion of the instructor. Purchase required textbooks from the HCC Bookstore prior to first class.

Nitrous Oxide for Dental Hygienists

This course is designed to prepare licensed dental hygienists to administer and monitor nitrous oxide in the clinical setting and to take the Commission on Dental Competency Assessment (CDCA) exam. You will be introduced to the fundamentals related to administering and monitoring procedures for nitrous oxide and are required to serve as clinical partners during the hands-on lab session. This course meets the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners (MSBDE) requirements for licensed dental hygienists. In order to prepare participants for the practice of nitrous oxide/oxygen administration and monitoring, you must complete a written assignment, summarizing basic nitrous oxide/oxygen principles. You must register no later than December 21 and email Bridget Holmes at bholmes@howardcc.edu to receive detailed assignment instructions. Assignments must be submitted by January 2. Late admissions will be considered at the discretion of the instructor. Purchase required textbook from the HCC Bookstore prior to class.
