Local Anesthesia for Maryland Dental Hygienists

This course is designed to prepare licensed dental hygienists to perform local anesthesia in the clinical setting and to take the Commission on Dental Competency Assessment (CDCA) exam. You will learn through didactic and laboratory exercises, the fundamentals of local anesthesia administration, pain control concepts, and special considerations.

Participants are required to serve as a clinical partner and complete a written assignment. This course meets the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners (MSBDE) requirements for licensed dental hygienists. In order to prepare you for the practice of local anesthesia administration, participants must complete a written assignment, summarizing basic anatomy and physiology related to local anesthesia administration.

You must register no later than June 5 and email Jasmin Haley at to receive detailed assignment instructions. The completed assignment must be submitted on the first day of class June 12. Late registrations will be considered at the discretion of the instructor.
