Testing for Online Classes

Many of Howard Community College's eLearning course offerings require students to participate in course assessments in a proctored environment.  HCC provides students a variety of ways to full fill the requirement for proctored environments.

HCC's Test Center

Academic testing for currently enrolled students, including makeup exams, online course exams and modified testing conditions for students who require them. HCC's Test Center provides secure, accessible and professional testing services and resources for all types of examinations administered onsite at the college. Part of the Consortium of College Testing Centers, the Test Center is also a member of the National College Testing Association (NCTA) and adheres to its standards and guidelines.

To view hours of operation, requirements for identity verification and other policies and procedures students must adhere to please visit HCC's Test Center webpage.

Consortium (Another Test Center closer to you)

Howard Community College (HCC) understands there are students taking classes at HCC who may need to take their exams off-site at an alternate testing location.  In an effort to accommodate our students, the Test Center at HCC has implemented procedures to ensure the needs of our eLearning students and faculty are met. Students unable to visit the HCC Test Center for their proctoring needs may work with The National College Testing Association's (NCTA) Consortium of College Testing Centers to find an alternate location convenient to you. Once a location has been selected, work with your testing center in collaboration with the HCC Test Center staff to complete and submit all paperwork required. Specific information about HCC's policies and procedures related off-site testing in the "eLearning Assessment" section of the Academic Proctoring and Services page of the HCC's Test Center webpage.

Virtual Test Proctoring

Howard Community College (HCC) provides students the ability to take their proctored exams from the comfort of their own home. Using the virtual proctoring application Respondus Monitor students take exams using their webcam, microphone and stable high-speed internet connection. At the beginning of the exam you will be asked verify your identity by using your webcam to take a picture of yourself and then another of your photo identification. Please have your identification ready to do so prior to starting the exam. The application will then monitory your activity and progress through the exam to determine and flag behaviors for further review by an instructor. Instructions for use of the virtual proctor application will be made available to students in courses offering this option.
