The Ghanaian Experience: Ghanaian Culture and Ethics in Literature
ENGL-207 “Ethics in Literature” (3 credits)
In this course, students will experience Ghana as they virtually explore its rich culture and roots, including the transatlantic slave trade and critical issues in today’s world. Through virtual tours and media, students will visit a variety of cultural sites including Greater Accra, the Ashanti Region, the River of the Last Bath, Cape Coast and Elmina Slave Castles, Kakum National Forest Park, Wli Falls, and Lake Volta. Finally, students will discover the residual effects of slavery, including its modern-day iterations, poverty, and environmental factors in both Ghana and the United States.
During this course, students will participate in a multi-week collaborative online learning project with peers at a Ghanaian university. Collaborating with our Ghanaian partners will provide students with the opportunity to increase valuable global competencies and experience course content in an engaging and exciting way.
