World War II in France


Program Description

Get ready to cover the buildup to and major events of World War II with this study abroad program to France.

Learn more about military engagements from the war by analyzing how it was fought on the battlefield. Discover how the war affected non-combatants in Europe on the home front. Focus on the victims of the war with a special emphasis on the Holocaust itself. This course will take you through each of these topics as you explore many of the sites where these events took place.

The application deadline for all study abroad programs is November 30, 2018.

  • Credits

    HIST-201 “Europe in the 20th Century” (3 Credits)

    SABR-919 “Study Abroad” (1 Credit)

    Students may take this course for credit or not-for-credit. HCC students who wish to receive college credits for the HIST-201 course are required to register for the SABR-919 course as well. In order to register, students must meet with the International Education Program Coordinator during the application process.

  • Schedule

    The HCC on-campus course will run from March 4 – April 8, 2019. The group will travel to Italy from April 10 – 21, 2019.

    Wednesday (April 10): Depart for France

    Thursday (April 11): Settle into accommodations in Paris. Visit Shoah and Deportation Memorials

    Friday (April 12): Paris: visit the Army Museum and Napoleon’s Tomb, free afternoon

    Saturday (April 13): travel to Bayeux: visit Bayeux Tapestry and Cathedral

    Sunday (April 14): Bayeux: visit Bayeux Cemetery and Museum

    Monday (April 15):Visit Mont Saint Michel

    Tuesday (April 16): British and Canadian Beaches D-Day. Tour visit Pegasus Bridge Museum

    Wednesday (April 17): Omaha Beach D-Day Tour

    Thursday (April 18): Visit Arromanches: 360 Museum and Mulberry Harbor Museum

    Friday (April 19): Utah Beach to Cherbourgh D-Day Tour

    Saturday (April 20):Travel to Paris, free afternoon

    Sunday (April 21): Depart for America​​

  • Program Cost

    The tentative cost for the study abroad course is $3200. This fee does not include the additional three credit course fee or the one credit study abroad course fee. The payment timeline is as follows:

    • $500 Program Deposit Fee (to be paid upon submission of study abroad application)
    • $1,350 Initial payment due by January 11, 2019
    • $1,350 Final Payment due by February 8, 2019

    *HCC reserves the right to increase the cost of the program up to 10% due to increased costs/flights and/or currency fluctuations.

    The Program Cost Includes:

    • Roundtrip airfare
    • Transportation within country
    • Some meals
    • Accommodation
    • All planned excursions

    The Program Cost Does Not Include:

    • Some meals
    • Free time expenses
