Whatever your career or life goals, HCC knows that to thrive in our diverse yet interconnected world, you need an international perspective. Global Distinction will help you advance your studies, broaden your career options, and become a productive global citizen - all while completing general education requirements!
What are the advantages of graduating or transferring with Global Distinction?
- "Global Distinction" recognition upon graduation and on your transcript.
- Advance completion of language/global credits required at many 4-year schools in our region (at a fraction of the cost!).
- Expand your world view with intercultural learning experiences in and out of the classroom.
To earn Global Distinction, students complete 15 of their credits in designated globalized courses, attend international campus activities, participate in a study abroad or equivalent domestic intercultural experience, and prepare an individual e-portfolio prior to graduation or transfer.
When you are ready to go global, contact International Education. You will also need to work with your academic advisor to stay on track for graduation.
Start your adventure with HCC’s globalized curriculum. Globalized courses allow students to experience political, economic, intellectual, and cultural diversity through their standard general education courses. Even courses like algebra or business rework problems and scenarios to better address global issues. Students who complete at least 15 credits of these globalized courses, including 8 language credits, are well on their way to earn an official "Global Distinction" designation on their transcript.
After applying to Global Distinction, International Education will contact you and you will be assigned a Global Distinction advisor who will help you find global courses.
We want you to immerse yourself in the Global Distinction program and become an important part of the international activities on campus each semester. One semester you might give a presentation during International Week and the next you may practice English conversation with an international student. International Education will work with you to help you choose global activities that interest you and contribute to the HCC global community.
HCC believes that to go global means getting out of your comfort zone and exposing yourself to greater cultural learning! So, you will also study abroad or complete a domestic immersion program (e.g. Alternative Spring Break).
Don’t worry! We’re here to help you through the whole planning process and are excited to work with you. You can explore study abroad programs here and service learning programs here.
