Center for Civic and Community Engagement
The Center for Civic and Community Engagement partners with faculty, staff, and community agencies to combine volunteer service and community-based experiences with academic instruction and guided critical reflection. Students at HCC can get involved with the Center by taking an academic course that offers a community engagement component or participating in a co-curricular service experience.
First established by a federal Learn and Serve grant in 2003, the Center has worked collaboratively with faculty, students, and our community for over fifteen years. Formally known as the Center for Service Learning, in the fall of 2012, the office proudly joined the Maryland-D.C. Campus Compact to further Howard Community College’s commitment to serving the community and developing civically engaged students. In the fall of 2021, the Center formally migrated to its new and current name, the Center for Civic and Community Engagement
