Earn while you learn with a biomedical equipment technician job

biomedical engineering apprenticeship students

Howard Community College offers Maryland’s only Biomedical Engineering Technology Apprenticeship Program that provides an Associate of Applied Science degree which apprentices earn upon completion. Biomedical equipment technicians (BMETs) install, maintain and repair medical equipment used in hospitals, clinics and other patient care locations. Most BMETs work for hospitals and equipment manufacturers. Duties may include testing, adjusting and repairing different medical and clinical devices. Students in the BMET Apprenticeship Program complete supervised on-the-job training.

A career as a biomedical equipment technician offers a competitive wage in a growing field. Students complete HCC’s work-based learning program to gain experience in the biomedical engineering technology industry. We partner with employers across the state of Maryland to help students secure a BMET job. The program includes more than 6,000 hours on the job and can take up to three and a half years to complete. Interested BMET professionals or those currently employed by a licensed health care or medical equipment organization are welcome to apply.

  • About the Program

  • Two Ways to Earn BMET Credentials at HCC

HCC offers two unique options for students to prepare for success in BMET:

A.A.S. Degree Ideal for students who plan to eventually pursue a bachelor’s degree.

Apprenticeship Program – Ideal for students who want to pursue an education while simultaneously earning a full-time salary in a biomedical engineering technology role and are interested in the possibility of having an employer contribute to their tuition costs.

Our Biomedical Engineering Technology Apprenticeship Program is part of our wider apprenticeships program. Students in the program earn their degree while they complete paid on-the-job training. We coordinate with employers to offer a variety of apprenticeships in Maryland. Learn more about our apprenticeship program.
