Dragon Formula Racing
Howard Community College’s Dragon Formula Racing club was established in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, but that hasn’t stopped them from designing, building, testing, and eventually racing their own car.
The Project
Together, students build a formula-style racing vehicle from scratch and travel to Michigan to compete for the first time in SAE International’s collegiate design competition, Formula SAE. As one of only two community colleges taking part in this event, going up against four-year colleges from around the country and the rest of the world, the Dragon Formula Racing team has an opportunity to demonstrate on the national stage that our students truly do get there from here.
Who Can Participate?
Although the team is based within the department of engineering and technology, the club and competition are open to all HCC students who share a passion for hands-on engineering and racing. Club members gain transferable skills, such as: project scheduling; time management; budget management; report writing and delivery of technical presentations. Whether you are an engineering major or not, participation in this club will look good on any resume!
