Enrichment Programs

The learning experience extends beyond the classroom at Howard Community College through a variety of academic enrichment programs that provide students with the opportunity to travel, explore different cultures, volunteer, and grow their sense of civic engagement and community awareness. Funds are needed to support the general operations of these programs, such as resources and travel expenses for students and faculty, as well as scholarships to allow students to participate in study abroad trips and cultural experiences. The programs listed below are not a comprehensive list of college offerings, they are representative of current HCC Educational Foundation fundraising efforts.

  • Study Abroad

HCC students benefit from the opportunity to immerse themselves in culture, history and academic studies in countries around the world with study abroad experiences. Study abroad can be a lifechanging experience for students, but many students with financial need do not have the opportunity to participate. Your support can help more students have the opportunity to participate in Study Abroad. Learn about the current Study Abroad Programs

  • The Center for Service Learning

The Center for Service Learning collaborates with the community to create meaningful service experiences that extend classroom and co-curricular learning while encouraging civic engagement, community awareness and personal development. Your support helps extend the programming and opportunities to participate to more HCC students. The Center for Service Learning provides a variety of opportunities for students to get involved in volunteer service in and outside of the classroom.  Students involved in the service learning program work with nonprofit, education and government organizations such as providing food to individuals experiencing hunger, conserving environmental resources, tutoring children, improving the health and wellness of Maryland residents and so much more! The Center for Service Learning has a funding need to assist students so they can participate in an alternative winter or spring learning trip.

Alternative Break Trips - Hosted during spring and winter semester breaks, Alternative Break trips provide students the opportunity to travel to different communities and engage in direct service to benefit their host community, such as working in shelters and soup kitchens, hospitals, camps, animal rescue organizations, environmental conservation activities, disaster relief, or working with underserved populations.  Due to limited funding there are only a certain number of spots for students to participate.  Your support can help more students have the opportunity to participate in Alternative Break trips.
