Dragon Formula Racing

The Cause

The Dragon Formula Racing Team at Howard Community College is looking to become one of the few community colleges in Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) International history to design, build, and race its own vehicle. With your support, engineering at HCC will be an example to community colleges across the nation that they can be as competitive as any team from a four-year school.

Students in the Dragon Formula Racing program learn the basics of automotive engineering. As a result, students develop an understanding of advanced engineering design tools such as Finite Element Analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics. Working on teams to build the car, students collaborate to ensure the success of the project.

Students gain time management skills through project scheduling and budget management, and demonstrate the ability to write a technical report for an engineering project. At the conclusion, teams participate in a Formula SAE competition with colleges from around the world.
