Sean Keller, Chair, HCCEF Board of Directors
When asked why he chooses to give to Howard Community College, Sean Keller pulls inspiration from his faith, saying “I want my family to leave a legacy that lasts longer than our time on Earth. We have been blessed with many opportunities, and I want us to give back in ways that leave our community better than when we started.”
Keller, an independent consultant in the IT industry, first worked with Howard Community College as a community task force member on the 2012 Commission on the Future. Following that experience, he volunteered on fundraising committees of the HCC Educational Foundation (HCCEF), and has served on its board of directors since 2014. With the start of fiscal year 2017, Keller became HCCEF Board of Directors Chairperson.
Keller is motivated to continue supporting the college because he sees the impact of his contributions on both students and the community, explaining “The college provides all students with an opportunity to find their path. Whether they want to gain new job skills, retool for a new career, or explore a personal interest. The college serves the community.” He also sees education as a critical component to a healthy community, and believes that HCC has played a significant role in Columbia’s ‘best place to live’ national recognition.
When asked what he would say to others thinking about supporting HCC, Keller states, “How can you say no? Giving to HCC just makes good business sense. Not only are you, as an organization, being a good corporate citizen in your local community, but the college is producing high quality graduates that could be future talent for your company.”
As HCCEF Board of Directors Chairperson, Keller plans to build on the Foundation’s strengths and successes by continuing to grow special events as well as explore new ideas and pathways for bringing the community together in support of student scholarships and college programs.
