Nancy Calder, HCC Professor
Professor Nancy Calder describes the atmosphere at Howard Community College (HCC) as having a palpable student-focus. In fact, it took just a few hours on campus for her to realize that she wanted to work there.
“It’s an amazing place, and it will never stop being amazing,” she said.
So, when presented the opportunity to donate to the college, it was a no-brainer.
“Education is very high on my list when it comes to giving,” she said. “Particularly to recognize those who are successful, who have strived so hard to do as well as they could.”
Nancy says her husband shares her desire to help those in need in all forms.
“To him it’s extremely important, so he grounds me and we bounce off each other,” she said. “Our philosophy is to help those in need, and the two of us can’t envision a world without education.”
She loves working at HCC because the college is passionately dedicated to student success.
“As faculty, I want to share my medical science knowledge with my students,” she said. “I am well aware that ‘life happens’ and sometimes will hinder my students’ aspirations to become part of the medical community.
“I hope that my husband’s and my contributions to the scholarship fund will help mitigate some of those obstacles that students face in their pursuits to becoming educated professionals.”
