Mark Kelehan, Harkins Builders
For Mark Kelehan, construction project executive at Harkins Builders, support of education has always been a priority. After connecting with the Howard Community College Educational Foundation through Leadership Howard County, and being impressed by the quality and value of the college, Kelehan became more involved, serving as a co-chair of the Vino Scholastico event and the vice chairperson for the HCC Educational Foundation.
For Kelehan, the relationship is personal. As the second youngest of eight kids, he knew that the community college route was the most feasible for him to continue his education after high school. His son also became a Rouse Scholar through HCC and his wife went back to HCC to get her AA degree in General Studies.
“Going to community college was a great opportunity, and as a stepping stone in my career,” says Kelehan.
Once he completed his associate degree in Business Administration from a local community college and had a few years of working experience, Kelehan went back to University of Baltimore to get his Bachelor of Science in Business Management. He graduated magna cum laude.
“Education was really important to me because I was the only person in my family to not have a bachelor’s degree,” says Kelehan.
Kelehan notes that “Howard Community College is the jewel of Howard County and a great institution for people to get a high-quality education."
